I'm an owner of a Ford Fusion with a 3.0 Duratec v-6 engine. Unfortunately I became a victim of fraud when a mechanic installed a complete used salvage yard engine when he he was supposed to only replace the block with a remanufactured one. My original engine no longer exists and the salvage yard identification marks are clearly written on the intake and front valve cover. The mechanic admitted to his wrong doing and promised to get me right. In his attempt he says that he has replaced the block with the remanufactured one I had asked for But I am now stuck with the salvage yard engine that had overheated on me, to a large degree, prior to me realizing that he had installed the salvaged engine. Recently I had my vehicle towed home as I don't trust this mechanic because he had my car for almost a year and his attempts to get me right has failed at every turn. As I evaluate my options I'm in need of knowing if the block has indeed been replaced and I'm wondering if the identification numbers on the block will tell me what I need to know. Like if they should correspond with other numbers on the engine. I've examined the block myself and it doesn't look like it has been replaced but I am merely a back yard mechanic with limited experience. It is obviously leaking oil with it


collecting around the oil pan. I would appreciate any advice to help facilitate my options.

I'm not seeking legal advice. I'm seeking advice on determining if my block has been replaced or not.

 

Based on your pictures we wouldn't know if the block has been replaced, the picture is of a leaking oil pan, its a problem with that engine along with the timing cover leaking.
I could be wrong but I do not believe different parts are stamped with the same identification number, IE block and heads all stamped #1 from factory. You may be able to tell if the color on the heads is different from the block, if the heads are dirty but the block is clean then its probably replaced, think of it like a tan line, if the whole arm is the same color tan then its probably from one person but if it changes tan color say at the elbow then maybe they are two arms but up and made into one, been watching to many murder mystery shows and thats the example that popped to mind.
If it looks like its still entirely a salvage yard engine I would recommend taking it to a different very reputable shop and have them put a new new/remained engine in it. I am recommending just replacing the entire engine based off the fact you said its overheated "to a large degree"(not sure exactly what that means),so possible the heads are warped and thats a road I for one do not like going down, also its leaking oil from the pan which means its also probably leaking from the timing cover since they seem to leak before the pan does.
It will cost you a great deal of money but that would eliminate the three concerns I would have.
