Suspect bad heater core
I been working on a 2008 Ford Fusion with a 2.3 liter engine. In fact, I removed the original engine and installed a very clean ( inside no sludge build-up anyplace ) engine. Prior to the install, I replaced crank shaft journal bearings, piston rings, timing chain and gears, crankshaft friction washer and bolt, all seals, had the head cleaned and new seals installed for valves, new thermostat, new water pump, and a new radiator. After all the above work has been done it runs like a champ, but, over heats after about a half hour of idling. I used a coolant system evacuation tool to fill the system back up. When adding the coolant, the system didn't take the called for amount of coolant. It only took a little over 7 quarts instead of the called for amount. So, I suspect that the heater core is clogged pretty bad and won't allow for the correct amount of coolant. Strange thing is, I can still get a good amount of heat in the cabin after the engine warms up. That brings me to this question if after I try to flush the heater core, Does the entire dashboard have to be removed in order to get the heater core out of the car. One Youtube video proclaims that it's possible. But, in order to do so, it's explained that a steel bracket has to be cut. I do have access to Alldata.com for the car. However, there are no instructions that say if the entire dashboard has to be removed to remove the heater core. If anyone on Ford Forum has had to deal with replacing a heater core in a 08 Fusion I would appreciate knowing how you removed and replaced your heater core. Thanks
