Question '67 289 with '88 heads

Hi. I have a '67 289 with '88 heads, having the 5/16 rocker bolts. This engine ran for a year and a half with a 351 windsor cam/solid lifters and non adjusting rockers set at 22 ft. pounds. The rockers finally wore down. I would like to know what is the best fairly stock cam/lifter combination and what heads to use. Some say drill and tap for the 7/16-14 studs to replace the 5/16 bolts in the rockers, therefore putting in the adjustable rockers and proper lifters and cam.

Any help with this mutt motor?
