Does anyone know how to properly fix the 2.9 lifter tick?

 

If,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,a hydraulic lifter is blocked with a piece of carbon, an old trick we used was to add a 1/2 quart of ATF to the motor oil in the engine and run it for a short while..

Most times the noise went away and then we changed the oil and filter. If there is another reason, then normal diagnostic procedures were performed.
