Default 2000 4x2 Speedo not working

Hello, I recently bought a 2000 Ford Ranger, 4x2. Nice truck but the speedometer and Odometer do not work. I have replaced the ABS sensor an the rear axel as the ABS light is on with no luck. I replaced the speedo cluster today with a used one with the same results, still does not work.

Is there a speed sensor somewhere or does anyone have a suggestion? My local Ford Dealer assured me it was the speed cluster and wanted $500 for a new one. I installed the used one myself but it was not it.

Thanks

Fuses are OK, its possible the cluster is bad as well but the seller asured me it was working, I guess I'm looking for feedback from others with simular problems.

You need somebody who can use a scantool and check vehicle speed at ECM. If it is giving the incorrect info it maybe the speed sensor at transmission, harness, connector, or even ECM. good luck

I had a similar problem. Suddenly my speedo stoped working out of no where. I looked under the truck at the tranny and discovered that the speedo cable had come loose. I tightend it and the speedometer worked fine. If you look and the cable is tight, pull it out anyways to make sure the little gear on the end isn't stripped. Good luck, and let me know if that helped.
