Hello, I recently bought a 2000 Ford Ranger, 4x2. Nice truck but the speedometer and Odometer do not work. I have replaced the ABS sensor an the rear axel as the ABS light is on with no luck. I replaced the speedo cluster today with a used one with the same results, still does not work.

Is there a speed sensor somewhere or does anyone have a suggestion? My local Ford Dealer assured me it was the speed cluster and wanted $500 for a new one. I installed the used one myself but it was not it.

check the fuse or maybe u just got a ****ty replacement cluster.

Fuses are OK, its possible the cluster is bad as well but the seller asured me it was working, I guess I'm looking for feedback from others with simular problems.

 

You need somebody who can use a scantool and check vehicle speed at ECM. If it is giving the incorrect info it maybe the speed sensor at transmission, harness, connector, or even ECM. good luck

 

I had a similar problem. Suddenly my speedo stoped working out of no where. I looked under the truck at the tranny and discovered that the speedo cable had come loose. I tightend it and the speedometer worked fine. If you look and the cable is tight, pull it out anyways to make sure the little gear on the end isn't stripped.
