Default 88 sitting for 3 years.

I am in the middle of aquiring a 88 ranger from my aunt. It has been sitting for the past 3 years so I am not even sure if I can get it to start. I know I need to get the bad gas out of there, change the fluid, air/change tires, and new battery. Is there anything else I would need to do?
Also the reason it sat for so long is that when you would have it in first gear idling, if you did not constantly give it gas, it would die. Any ideas on what would cause this? Possible fix's?

I am on a very tight budget at the moment as I am a student and pay all my out bills.

Thanks for the help and expect me to be lurking around trying to figure these trucks out!

Auto or manual transmission? 20, 2.3 or 2.9 engine? 2WD or 4WD?

Being an 88 and setting for 3 years, when $ available, I would replace engine oil, filter, air filter, fuel filter, tranny fluid and filter if an AUTO tranny, P/S fluid, rear axle lube, front axle if 4x4. Also flush the old brake fluid out of the system.

These are just some started items.
