Default 94 ranger starting problems

I have a 94 ranger that my daughter drives. The other day it died on her and wouldn't start. I pulled it home and checked it but it stated up fine a few times then it wouldn't start again.sometimes it will sometimes it wont.when it doesn't start , I have no spark and my fuel pump wont come on. It just turns over but wont start. It has the 2.3 eight plug engine.
Any ideas would be really helpful. Thanks

A good starting point is always to check all the fuses.

Go to easyautodiagnostics .com they have step by step testing ..follow the directions..I would suspect a bad crank sensor..but it must be tested so you dont just throw parts at it..

At the inertia switch (which floats around somewhere near the right kick panel to right side firewall, down just below the HVAC case), look at the connector; they had a habit of pulling out of the switch.
If all's good there, then backprobe the pink/black wire when the key is turned to on; it should light for 2 seconds, then go out (and remain lit if turned to crank). If so, check the pump at the tank. If not, then check the fuel pump relay, located in the battery distribution box.

Since it seems to have , no spark and no fuel pump activity, an eec relay which could interfere with spark and fuel pump signal might be suspect. What do you guys think ?
Also no PIP signal from the dist could be in that group too ,but if it were the PIP signal he should at least get the 2 second pump operation when the key is first turned on.
