Default Buy a Ranger

Im 17 years old, Im new to this site. so Hi. But my friend is selling his 93 ranger 2.3 cylinder. Its a manual, and ive been driving it alot lately, it has 64,000 miles on it, but i think it needs a new clutch. Like he always puts it in second gear when he parks it in his driveway, its a hill but the car kind of wants to roll when in gear with the car off, the ebrake dont work, but is this a clutch problem. It makes little noises when its in gear on a hill. And also whenever im driving,I dont know if this is suppose to happen, you can put the car in neutral without using the clutch when driving, except when your in 5 gear(im guessing cause 5 gear wasn't used that much) but is that normal..

Im gonna buy the truck for 900, but im just want to know if this is a clutch problem or transmission problem.

Thanks for everyones help

Hi my name is James.I'm new to the forum also.parking in second gear is ok.It may slip a bit.Well every vehical I've ever had i was able to upshift without ever useing the clutch,Including the 1993 mustang that I put a new clutch and throwout bearing into.If it makes a kinda of whineing sound when you switch gears and the gear lever has a shake to it then probaly time for a new clutch and throwoutbearing.A cheap one doesnt cost alot.Btw is it a 4 or 6 cylinder? An easier way to tell would be to hammer down on the gas in first gear and if it sounds like its spinning but the tires aren't then its the clutch. If it tears up then don't worry you haven't bought it yet. Good luck.If the body is in good condition 900 sounds like a good price for a 93 ranger.I would bet it's 164000 miles though.if the first number(6) is not sitting center like the rest of the numbers then the odomiter has been turned 1 time.

I have a 93 ranger, I hate to tell you this but its probably got 164,000 miles on it, my 93 ranger doesnt show over 100,000 miles it will only go to 99,999 and then rolls back over to zero, my truck shows 88,000 miles when it actually has 188,000 miles

well, i drove it again today, the gears will not go into the neutral if i have my foot on the gas, but whenever im just rolling in 4 gear or whatever it will go into neutral without the clutch. But i can spin the tires pretty easy. The body of the car, just has scratches,(its a truck) but it doesnt have any big dents or major damage to it, just stratches. im gonna go ahead and buy it. Im gonna have fun with that truck, maybe swap in a new motor in the future.

I think $900 for the truck you have described is a tad bit steep.
