What year is your Ranger?
Some systems will disable the Daytime running lights if the parking brake is not fully released.

Default daytime running lights

My ranger is a 2000 stepside, the e brake hasn't worked for a couple of years now. The lights stopped working about 6 months ago.

It would be a good idea to check the switch that warns when the parking brake is not fully released. It could have been borderline all the while then just decided to change. Can you get the parking brake lite to come on by just depressing the switch and not moving the parking brake pedal itself?

I got the lite to come on,but still the lights don't come on. I think I need a new module,I've looked on ebay to buy one,but can't find one to match,I'm trying to save a few bucks by staying away from the dealer, but coming up with a blank on finding one.Any ideas where to find one cheap? None of the wreckers in my area have one.

Instead of getting a scrapper unit, you can buy a new module with a warranty from rockauto.com for $51.
