hello all,
i have a 2002 ranger xlt, 4 door, the door ajar light has started to stay on, and my dome light stays on when i close the door, found out today, that when i am sitting still, with the engine off, but the door closed, and the key in the ignition, the chime is going off, as if the door was open, so i think it has something to do with the drivers door, is there a sensor in the door? i could not find any kind of sensor, am i just blind? or is there another type of problem, truck has been very good to me, got it in 04, it's got over 200,000 miles on it, not going to get rid of it because of this problem, but i would like to fix it. thank you

 

The dome light switch is built into the door latching mechanism. These tend to crud up over time causing them to hang up. Spray the latching assembly with a good dose of silicone spray to clean everything out and open/close the door several times to work the silicone into the switch. Spray silicone as needed.

If cleaning the switches does not work and you end up needing to replace them there are a few available. If you have manual locks then the switch is the same on both front doors, part number XF1Z-14018-AA (#XF1Z14018AA: Door ajar switch. DOOR JAMB SWITCH. SWITCH.). If you have power locks then the front doors will need XF1Z-14018-BA (#XF1Z14018BA: Door ajar switch. DOOR JAMB SWITCH.) on the RH/passengers side and XF1Z-10B987-AA (#XF1Z10B987AA: Door ajar switch. DOOR JAMB SWITCH.) on the LH or drivers side. Part number XF1Z-14018-AA is also good for the rear doors if those end up being the ones giving you trouble, the rear switch is the same regardless of power or manual locks.
