Default Dumb girl needs help

I have an 01' Ranger that it making a weird sound. It sounds like it's coming from under the truck, maybe a roar sound. It happens mainly right before I need to shift gears. It stops after a few minutes of driving. Anything to make me sound a little informed before I take it to a mechanic. Thanks!

I am willing to bet that when you hear this you are shifting up over 3000 rpms, and the roar could also sound like a fan blade spinning up and pushing a lot of air? If this is the sound it is normal, our engines particulaly the 3.0 start to come alive at just over 3000 rpm and you hear it breathing deep.
