eng revs up in gear and neutral

my eng revs up over 3000 whether in gear or neutral. it's a stick. it's a 2002EDGE with a 3.0 v6

I would look for a good size vacuum leak.

If extra air is getting into the engine that the MAF (mass airflow sensor) is not seeing that air leak is getting picked up by the oxygen sensor as a lean condition and the computer attempts to correct that by adding more fuel, AND the RPM goes up.

AND,,,,,,,,,,,,,it's Friday the thirteenth.
