Default Limited slip rear?

Hi, new to the Ranger scene with a '98 , 3.0, auto, 2 wheel drive that I just bought. I love the truck and was thinking of some improvements such as for the winter would it be worth it to change the rear end to a limited slip rear? I don't know what ratio I have back there now but thought about if I did make a change to put in a more economical set of gears. Can I use the housing I have now and just change the internals or do I need a whole new set-up? Any advice would be appreciated. Frank

Trac Lok helps alot in the snow.

So does cinder blocks.....in my 87 2wd I use 5 concrete blocks all the way in the back of the bed, that and enough right foot with decent tires I can pass 4x4's.

You dont wanna gear a 3.0L and higher then comes factory. 3.0's are gutless in torque and igh gears zap what little they have.

Dustin

Thanks, I assume by Trac-loc you mean the limited slip rear? Do you know if it's a big job to install? I will probably go the cinder block route and snow tires for this winter and see how it goes. Thanks for the advice.

Your better off going to the junkyard and pulling a axle already equipped with limited slip (Trac Lok).
