Default Need help with a trani switchout .. please help

Hello everyone. I have a 1992 4.0 lr 4x4 Ford Ranger . It has a blown trans in it. I have a 1997 Ford Explorer with a 4.0 lr in it.. Will the trans from that fit in the Ranger? Any help is apretiated Thank you!!!

PS: both trans are automatics

But the difference is one is an all electric shift and the other is not. You have an A4LD in the 92 and a 5r55 in the 97. Two totallty different transmissions. It may bolt up, but will not shift.

I'm with oldtimer on this, 2 differenct transmissions but one is bolted to a 4.0L SOHC (Explorer) and the other is a 4.0L OHV. The motors run 2 totally different PCMs and one is an OBD-I and the other is an OBD-II. Your PCM will not be able to shift the transmission. The A4LD is a 4 speed auto and the 5R55E is a 5 speed auto. You need something 96 or older from a Ranger or Explorer.
