When you say universal relay I get nervous.
The relay should have a mounting tab on it so you can secure it to someplace.
The amperage is more than sufficient.
Does the back/bottom of the relay have the numbers as stated earlier?
It should show the diagram of the diode on the underside of the relay between number 85 & 86.
It must have the diode to prevent creating spikes when deactivated.
If all is Ok then,
1. Remove battery negative cable
2. the black/Wh wire goes to terminal #85.
3. The Red/Lt Grn wire goes to term #86
4. The YELLOW wire goes to terminal # 30 (This is the wire that has voltage all the time)
5. The RED wire goes to terminal # 87
When you turn the key on , power is sent to terminal 86 which energizes the relay
The internal contacts close connecting battery power from term # 30 to terminal # 87.
87A is not used.
Reconnect the negative cable and all should be good to go.
Just make sure the wires have good secure connections and secure the relay where it is away from any moisture.

 

Ok, I was going to order this online, but I think that I will take all of your instructions with me to the auto electric supply store. It appears that I can get a pigtail prewired socket, I just need to make sure the wires go where they are supposed to go. Kids have Basketball state tourney this week, so I can't work on the truck till i get back. I will let you know how it goes. Thank you again!
