Shifter Link Cable Removal and Installation
I have a 1996 Ford Ranger 4.0L, AT w/ AC, 6Cyl, 4x2WD. I have to start it in Neutral since I believe
the shifter cable is either stretched or damaged. I have a new one but don't know how to replace it.
Can someone reading this post, please guide me as what I have to do to replace it, please?
Thank everyone who reads and post replies to this topic.

Sensor is mounted to the trans case where the cable attaches to the lever.
Does the selector have some abnormal ‘slop to it?
If so, look under the dash just above the foot well area. At the base of the column the upper shift lever has two screws that attach it to the column selector tube. If they come loose, it makes it difficult to select Park. It will also create a fair amount or shifter slop, as would the shift tube bushings and/or clamps .
The torx screws quite often come loose on many models..
