Default Spare Tire key

I have a 99 Ford Ranger that was stolen this last weekend, it was found and recovered but one of the things that are missing is the key to the spare tire that is housed under the truck bed. Does anyone know how I go about getting a new key? Thanks Patty

Quick answer, would be go to the dealer. I am not familiar with a spare tire key as my truck is much older.

On this year model the lock is built into the frame of the truck under the tail gate.
I called a couple of local Ford dealers and was told they had could not help me.
Thanks

Oh wait a sec. I think I know what you are talking about. I had a silverado with something similar. All it was, was a cylinder that goes in where you cranked down the tire. That way someone couldn't just go in and crank it down. Is that how yours is? Probably take it to a locksmith. They may even be able to make a new key for it.

Techmanbd, yes you got it right. Thanks for the suggestion for the locksmith, that is worth a try.
I've called a couple of dealers and they are saying all the can do is replace the lock for about
$150.00. Maybe a locksmith can save me some money.... thanks Patty

I bought a '99 used in 2000 and the key was missing , I just took a crow bar and pryed the lock out, it was really easy. That is a solution if you don't care about having the lock, unless you really think someone is going to steal your spare.
