Default Tips on Clutch Change?

My pressure plate is history. Since I'm going to pull the transmission I will also change the clutch disc, slave cylinder and pilot bearing. Anybody got any helpful hints or know of anything out of the ordinary that has to done to made the repairs? I have a Kwik-Lift but no transmission jack. I saw one that goes on a floor jack. It attaches were the jack pad goes and is a metal plate with chains to hold the tranny. Anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks,
Jim

Might be a good idea to have flywheel resurfaced. As for a jack, I just use another set of hands and muscles

Default RE: Tips on Clutch Change?

i agree, it's easier with another set of hands and muscles, but be prepared to get mad haha, i've done it 4 times on my 92, i can walk you through it, driveshaft has to go, if it's 4x4, take the transfer case off seperate, you will save alot of labour that way, just be careful how you tip it because on the 4x4 models the speedo cable is in the transfer case and that has to come out so if you tip it wrong, alot of fluid will come out, sounds funny but the manual transmissions takes automatic transmission fluid, so all driveshafts need to be disconnected, all the crossmembers underneath need to be unbolted, and disconnect all electrical connections and what not on the tranny (and transfer case if there) the hydraulic clutch hose that goes into the transmission is kinda tricky to get out, just use a flathead screwdriver and push in on the white clip right where the hose goes into the transmission and pull out on the hose at the same time, it should come out, then unbold the tranny from the engine, make sure there's a jack at the back end of the transmission for support, and for the top two bolts u may have to crawl up onto the engine and get at them from up top with a wrench. oh and the downpipes need to be unbolted from the exhaust manifold if you have the y pipe that goes underneath the tranny. i also reccomend maybe an aftermarket upgraded clutch because those standard ones cant' take any abuse at all. having the flywheel re surfaced isn't a bad idea at all either
