Question Truck is idling weird

I have a 1997 Ford Ranger 4.0L XLT. My truck runs great except at times it starts idling like it has a cam. The truck loaps really hard and almost cuts off. Sometimes when Ive been driving awhile the air intake starts whistling really loud. Any ideas to these problems?
Thanks,
Ryan

If it is a stick check the IAC valve (idle air control). If it is an auto and does it only in park check the IAC as well. If it is an auto and does it in gear check the TPS (throttle position sensor). As well as the usual suspects, maf sensor dirt, fuel filter.......
