2004 Taurus SE Security/Anti-theft alarm won't turn off
Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated- opening the driver's side car door whether locked or unlocked results in an alarm as if the headlights were on. I have two programmed ignition keys, but no remote key fob. I've tried multiple procedures to reset the security system without success. Also, when the doors are locked using the driver's side "lock" button, the driver's door lock immediately unlocks itself. Please advise asap, thanks in advance! Tim
What do you mean by this? - "results in an alarm as if the headlights were on" is the security alarm aka horn going off or is a internal chime going off?
Is the anti theft light on? padlock around a car symbol.
Does the car start and driver?
Do you have any codes present?
When you push the driver door lock button does all four doors lock then unlock or does only the driver door lock then unlock?
What happens when you push the pass door lock button?

I appreciate your quick response. To clarify: I recently replaced the multi-function switch assembly (turn signals etc) & the flasher. Ever since that was done, only the chime goes off (not the horn) when the driver's door is opened. If the door is then left open & the I insert the key and start the ignition, the chime goes on, then off after a few seconds. But every time the driver's door is open, (with keys in my pocket) the chime goes off incessantly. When I use the lock/unlock button on the driver's door, the other 3 doors lock & remain locked, but the driver's door lock momentarily locks, then springs automatically into the unlock position. If I use the lock/unlock button on the passenger side door, all 4 doors lock & remain locked. The "Theft" light blinks once I'm in the car, but goes out when the ignition is started.
Why did you replace the multi function switch?
Did you have any of the issues before that?
Does the new multi function switch work correctly?
It almost sounds like the car thinks the headlights are on when they are not, but the door lock issue is strange.

I replaced the switch because turn signals worked intermittently at best, but more often not at all, no emergency flasher before either. If I signaled a turn and completed it, the turn signal lever would remain stuck in the position I signaled, and no flashing indicators on the dash. No other issues with the car, and all works as designed with the new switch assembly- signals, flashers, wipers etc. Agreed the car acts like the headlights have been left on, according to the darned chime. I'm still hoping there's a fix, short of disabling the chime. Thanks again for your responses.

Out of curiosity do you have any warning lights on the dash? Or are there any missing that use to show up? All of them should light up when you first turn the key to on. I had a chime once for a seat belt issue but the damn warning light was burnt out so it took a little to figure out what was going on.
For the door lock issue can you physically lock the door and it stay locked or does it feel weird when you physically lock it?
Lastly what brand multifunction switch did you install.
I'll look into the wiring diagrams later today for how the chime works.

I havent had any luck finding anything that seems how this would happen related to the multifunction switch.
Since the issues happened right after you replace the multifunction switch I would reinstall the old switch and see if the issue goes away.
I have rarely had issues with aftermarket switches but its possible.
