Default 2013 oil level

I still do my own oil changes and when I refill the crankcase with the prescribed 6 quarts it reads high on the dipstick . is this normal ?

If the filter was changed some of the oil over the full mark will go to fill the oil filter.
What does it read after you run it a minute then shut it down ?

IT seems to read about a half a quart over the full mark

With the filter mounted at an angle some of it still drains out into the crankcase. With the engine running that 1/2 qt goes back into the filter and the level is right where it should be.

It is more likely the car was not level. Being on a very slight grade can cause the dip stick reading to read slightly high or low.

You have a 2013 so it may not be your issue but as the engine mounts wear the engine can slightly sit out of plumb level. I have noticed this on my 19 year old car.

Turn the car around. Park it in the same exact location and check it after sitting for 10 minutes or longer.
