If you have a parts store close with a tool loaner program (Autozone and Advance come to mind) you can borrow a belt tensioner tool that will allow you to take the tension off the serpentine belt so that it can be removed. You will have to pay for the tool up front but get a refund upon its return. The tool is basically a high leverage/confined space wrench handle with several interchangeable heads that will fit the vast majority of cars. There should be a serpentine belt diagram under the hood of your car that will point out the tensioner, which is a spring loaded arm with a pulley on the end. You'll use the tool to move the tensioner in whichever direction takes the pressure off the belt and the slide the belt off the pulley.

Good luck!

I just used a 1/2 drive socket wrench on mine. He'll have to look for the square hole on the belt tensioner, if he knows what and where that is, and from there it's easy to take off. I don't think hardly anybody could figure out how to put the new belt back on (without taking all night) without the diagram though, which they put above the radiator.

Default Drive belt help

K well I got a 88 ford taurus 3.0 and the water pump went and I do not know how to put the fu**ing belt back on. The last owner of the car for some reason took off the picture of how to put the belt back on and the only help I get is it should be located under then hood. Well i know this and it is not , i got a haynes and they dont even show how to do it. If anyone knows where to find a diagram that would be sooooo helpful I tried all day today and I could not figure it out please please please....
