96 Taurus code 1518
I have the code 1518. That's for the intake manifold runner bank #1. The check engine light is on. I need to get this fixed as my inspection is up in November. I have had this problem since last year but for some reason after I cleared it the code didn't come back up and I passed inspection. This year I may not be so lucky. I need to know where to check for voltage and how the system works. I opened the box that is on the outside vavle cover and saw the circuit board and the motor and gears. How can I check to see if the motor works. I moved the gears by hand but it didn't seem to move the cable. The butterflys seem to move o.k..I was a Ford mechanic back in the 80's and know my way around cars. Any help will be appreciated.
I also have a code 0420 catalyst threshold low bank 1. any ideas on that one. I have a small exhaust leak in the flex pipe could that be the problem.

Like how much costly. I get the parts I do the work.
I know my way around cars but have not been to school for obd2 so I am just asking for some guidance on what to check here and how the systems work and if someone else fixed these problems how did he do it. I could probably pick up some parts in a junk yard or e bay.
Is the price to fix it > 1000. Because to replace this car that is in nice shape would probably cost me about 5000. This the house work car.

LoL....don't take this wrong...but you may want to consider selling this car. The items you would need to cure these Codes...are very costly...[&o]
