Yes, vulloa, get us the digital trouble codes. At this point there are too many possibilites.
I am getting the feel that it is a missfiring, rough running engine and not a transmission problem.
We will be looking for vacuum leaks, plugged EGR system, ignition problems (coil pack) dirty fuel injectors and other relatively inexpensive things. In fact we will try to eliminate the easy causes. That is something one of your 20 mechanics could have done. Why in the world do you know 20 mechanics? You should know 1 or 2 good ones and that should cover your needs.

Vulloa, I went back to your original post to rethink this.
What you describe there sounds to me like an engine that is miss-firing and rough running. In general that has nothing to do with the transmission.

I have an '03 Windstar and I had a stumbling and rough running engine. I found vacuum leaks that caused this. The major leak was at the intake manifold isolator bolts. There are rubber grommets that shrank and turned hard. They let extra air in and that messes up the fuel air ratio. I don't know if the Taurus has the same set up.

So I would be looking for any loose and broken hoses, gaskets etc between the air filter and the engine.
I would clean the MAF sensor.
I would check the ignition system and replace anything that looks suspicious. Plugs, wires, coil pack.
My Windstar also has intake manifold runner controls (the Taurus may have them too). One control arm was bent and the little white plastic grommets were broken. I bought the grommets for about $3.00 and I replaced the IMRC module with one from the junk yard. I could have just straightened the bent arm, but I did not realize that until after.
My engine runs beautifully (for a Ford anyway).

My vacuum leaks made more trouble at low RPMs and idle, the ignition parts made more trouble at high RPMs. I once had a Ford Aerostar and it had these bad misses at highway speeds. Ultimately, it was caused by a bad coil pack. Coil packs can have internal shorts without showing any external damage.
