I have gone through the ignition switch not turning when it was new, and the dealer drilled out the old, and installed the new switch.
Recently, the key will not return to the position where it can be removed, but it does shut off the engine and electrical power. It seems to stick for a while, and can then be turned and removed. I have a hard copy manual for the car, but it doesn't address the problem. Is it related to the park transmission cable to the steering column? Or has the switch just croaked again?

 

Usually where we insert the key is called the tumbler.
The ign switch is usually located further down on the steering column and gets activated by a rod from the tumbler section.
I would suspect the tumbler section itself causing the problem extracting the key.

 

Should I lube the tumbler section, or remove it and inspect it? What type of lube would you suggest? Silicone, LPS, WD 40 or ? Thanks.

 

I lubed the tumbler section and that didn't help.
But when I readjusted the steering wheel position, it went away.
I'm almost certain that is associated with the transmission selector position lock since you are unable to switch the key to off unless the car in in Park.
