My girlfriend has a 1995 ford contour it was recently in the shop to get a new battery and the wires that connect to it were replaced she has the 16v ztech motor 4 cylinder by the way anyways it recently started acting up but to get to the point iam a car person so with this problem i know you should change the spark plugs small to big problems money wise but anyway when you start the car and put it in drive and take off at low speed or low rpms its like the motor starts shuttering like it wants to cut off her car has no rpm gauge just speedometer heat gauge and fuel level gauge so i cant tell if the rpms are going from normal what 1000rpm to like 200rpm shut off low but it seems like it is any help would be fine mind you i changed the spark plugs today and the spark plug cables seem to be fine please help and thank you for the help

 

95 contour/mystique are notorious for shorts in the wiring harnesses around the engine. The cables' insulation gets brittle and falls of the copper wires. What you describe could be caused by shorts like that. I bet there is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) out for this issue. Check TSB & Recalls.

 

my gf has a 98 mystique and it constantly has problems. . .
the newest of which i'm having trouble diagnosing.
the car idles between 1,000 and 3,000 rpms and makes a strange noise.
it seems as if the car is trying to keep the engine running by idling at a high rpm.
when i barely touch the gas it revs up and holds the rpms for up to 5 seconds before it decends.
the check engine light came on once for a few seconds but almost immediately disappeared.
i'm having some serious trouble figuring out why this is happening.
