2001 Escape EGR Combusted (repair)

So somehow, my EGR got this major whole in it.

I don't currently have $70 to buy a replacement, so could I just tape over the whole to seal lock it???

If the exhaust ate a hole in the thick metal presently there , do you think any kind of tape will handle that?
