Hey, I have a 2012 Ford Escape XLT with the 3.0L V6 FLEX-FUEL ENGINE.
Problem: The engine light and the wrench light are on. I went to a Ford dealer to get it checked out, and the error message is po740. They said a cable from the PCM to the torque converter is broken. So I went there another time to get all the cables checked out and to get the broken one replaced. They found no broken cable and concluded that the PCM is broken and must be replaced.
Question: I then checked the error with an OBD2 scanner, and it confirmed the po740 error. How realistic is it that the PCM is really broken and that it is not caused by another part? The car drives almost fine, but when I slow down a bit more, the car stutters, and it feels like something with the downshifting is wrong.
I attached the original Ford dealer service receipts and hope that somebody has any tips.
And if the PCM is really broken, does anybody know a place or a website where I can get a replacement (I live in Canada)?
Thanks

I realize this may cost you some extra money, but at this time I would suggest you have a trans shop with a good reputation check your vehicle.
It appears there may be problem involving the torque converter clutch circuit.
Certain conditions must be met before the converter clutch can engage..
It could be one of those conditions are not present , or a possible electrical problem in the circuit.
It seems the dealership dropped the ball here.
