Default 88 ford 5.0L Starts,dies,starts,dies

I have a 88 Thunderbird with 5.0L.When you start it it will run just a second and die.If you start it and give it gas it will run till you start to let off the gas.I can drive it but have to keep giving it the gas and letting off.Give it the gas and as long as you are giving it the gas it will run fine but just as soon as you let off a little bit its like you cut the gas off.By looking at the instany economy on the electronic dash the instant you let off the gas it goes to 99 mpg.The instant you give it the gas it will go to 15 to 25 or so mpg like normal.Where do I go first?

You might start out by checking out the TPS.

Also look at the Idle Control Valve.

Your PIP signal originates in the distributor assy. A good start would be to check the components inside the dist. and the related wiring to the TFI module mounted on the outside of the dist. The plug on the module also sends the signal to the ECA. A thorough check of all connections may eliminate the problem. If after you check all the connections in the distributor area and you receive no change , then it would be a good move to check the plug connections at the ECA itself. If that produces no change then the TFI module or the ECA is suspect.
