Default can't find vss

Hello, I have a 99 explorer, 4liter sohc, 4x4 eddy bauer. The speedo quit working and I have a po500 code. I got a new vss but I cant find where the original one is. my repair manual shows it at the back of the trans but it looks like thats a 2wd model. Thanks, in advance, for your help.

It should be located on the transfer case next to where the shift motor mounts.

Thanks for the reply hanky. I threw in the towel and took the truck to an independant
garage. They said the sensor I bought was not for my truck ( thats why I couldn't find
where it went ) and they changed what they call the ABS. So a $180 later my speedo
works fine. They were nice enough to tell me I have leaky rear axle seals, I think I can
fix those myself. Oh well, sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you.
