all you mechanic buffs riddle me this. Is there a way to replace the cvt30 transmission with a tranny from a ford escape 2006 models with a 3.0l engine? I'm tired of trying to find a good cheap cvt30 transmission. if not is there a way I can use a transmission from a ford 500 cvt30 or a montego cvt30 transmission by changing the mecatronics unit? and will it bolt up to the engine in the freestyle? If i can use a tranny from the escape will i have to change the wiring harness and computer? one would think there has to be a way to by pass the cvt tranny with an alternate tranny? Most used cvt30 transmissions sell for $1200 to $2600 and i still owe almost $7,000 on the freestyle. The car isn't worth putting $2,000 into but yet I can't afford to throw it away either. Please ask your other mechanic friends and let me know as i'm in need of help with this problem.
