Eng Idle surge

I have a 2000 F-150 3.0 L engine that surges in idle for two seconds then back to normal and then cycles high again. Any ideas. Thanks

I have the same thing in a 96 windstar...it seems to be related to certain air settings....If I turn off defrost or defrost/lower vent...it goes away.
