I have a Ford Freestar with a factory installed DVD system but no remote.
Does anyone know who manufactures these for Ford?

I would like to set up universal type remote but need at least the manufacturer and a model if at all possible.

Ford uses several companies for their audio / video such as Alpine & Pioneer but even if you find out, they will not be able to supply you with a remote that will work. You are stuck with purchasing from Ford.
