Default HELP

I have a 1998 F-150 with about 90,000 miles on it, never had any major problems with it until last week. The truck is sputtering and very hesitant when you hit the gas. The check engine light flashes and then goes solid. I would greatly appreciate any help that anyone might be able to give me. Thank you in advance.

Check for codes, a flashing CEL usually indicates a catalyst damaging misfire.

It would help to know which engine you have.

If you can get the codes, that will narrow your search. Check about the rear cylinder on the passenger side, if you see any evidence of coolant leaking from the heater hose about #3&4, the coils will have to be replaced, and most likely the spark plugs.

Coil failures are not uncommon, as well as the spark leaking thru the coil boot. There are other items that could cause what you described, but getting the codes will put you that much closer to knowing what to fix.
