Default Loose steering

We have a 1971 Torino. We installed disc brakes, it had a slight pull to the left. We took it to one of the big box auto stores for an alignment. They messed it up and now the steering is loose. We have checked all the suspension parts all seem tight. It drives straight until you hit a large bump then pulls hard to the right. Any ideas?

you may be expierencing bump steer. this will cause abnormal toe changes over bumps as the suspension jounces and rebounds.

normally as the suspension jounces or goes down the toe on each wheel will go negative and when the suspension rebounds or goes up the toe will to positive. with bump steer one toe will to negative and the other positive creating a steering direction change.

measure the center link from a fixed point on the frame. it should be level at both mounting points. You can check for this on an alignment machine by watching toe change through suspension jounce and rebound.

bump steer will only cause a steering directional change not loose steering.
