Lord I'm new and need some help
Hey I'm new to these awesome 60-66 Chevy trucks and was hoping to ease in, but I just ran up on what I think is a decent '64 c-10 for sale and need to get some fast feedback.
This one is a 3 on the tree long bed step side, which I've never seen before, and seems to be in good shape. Am waiting back for more pictures of the underneath side for indications of rust.
My issue is I have a budget of course and I would like my eventual truck to end up with a 6 cyl, a TH350 or 700R4 auto trans, power steering, and a/c. And of all of these this truck only has the 6, so at least it's a start.
So my questions are...how difficult and costly is it to add individually... one of these auto trans to a 3 on the tree truck, a/c, and power steering?
Although I've never gotten too deep in my engine, clutch or trans I pretty much do all the work on my cars..96 Jeep Cherokee and an 02 Maxima.
So if I can do a fair amount of this work myself, how much would each of these upgrades end up costing me, in parts?

Welcome to the site
C10, T400? = Ford
I always liked the long step sides/wheel bases to work from, not all that common since most mods are done to shorties. Long box with plenty of perimeter steps, good work truck..

Thanks Hp. I modified my original post a little to show that I've been advised now to go with either a TH350 or 700R4 trans with my planned 6 cyl.
And yeah this is actually the first long bed step side I've seen. Didn't know they made them until now...and it really does seem like a good work truck.
Would you know how common these are vs. the short bed step sides? Do I see more of the short beds for sale because they're more desirable maybe?

No, wouldn't know the ratio.
I worked for a company that bought F150 long steps. A fleet of them in 73-79. In fact, I think quite a few of the long beds started life as municipality trucks, construction etc trucks. I'm sure the public added to the count but the long step wasn't real popular.
I just saw a 'real nice' survivor C with a 6/4sd for sale at Cool April Nights in Northern Ca a bit ago. Owner told me it was an old County truck (orange color) he picked up. Near all original, very decent shape considering it's vintage . Ran like a Swiss watch still. Think he wanted 3500.00 for it..

From what I'm seeing on craigs list that sounds like a great price for the condition.
Is it possible to swap a long step bed onto a truck that was originally a short fleet side?
And my last advice is that I should avoid swaping in an auto trans and just wait til one of the OE auto trans trucks shows up. So how does the OE compare to say the 700R4 trans. Fuel efficient, o/d?

You could add a long bed, but the frame would need to be stretched, drive shaft either replaced with an OE long version with a carrier bearing or one built. E brake cables, lines etc would need to be changed as well. 73-79 the wheel base was 117-133 for the flare sides.
Ford had 3 versions of the flareside in the early 5th gen F's including a 9' bed F350.
AOD would be a 4sd overdrive but wasn't an option until 1980. Long step/flare was gone after 79 I believe.
