misfire on 1 and 2 cyclinder
got a 2001 windstar with 3.8 scanner says misfire on cyclinder 1 & 2. we have new plus and wires. we have checked the plugs and wires it fires but after a few seconds the fire gets weak and then goes away and then it comes back weak again on both cyclinders. could the coil pack be weak or bad
Sounds like the coil could be breaking down and not able to fire the plug under compression. For the cost of the coil, I would replace it since they get weaker over time. I replaced the one on my 04 Freestar at 80,000 miles due to a problem of occational "UNDER-LOAD" misfires that would jolt the van like a tranny problem. I ordered an "ACCEL" coil pack and a set of PACKARD plug wires. I was disappointed that the coil actually would not work due to different style plug wire connections. I was forced to install a DURALST coil ($75) from Autozone which is working OK and resolved my problem.
