Default negative cable ford ranger

I need to replace my negative cable on my 2002 ranger 3.0

can I simply run a new cable from my neg battery post to the ground on the engine? OR does the negative cable go other places also??

The complete harness from ford costs 116 dollars

Im aware of the wire running to the radiator cradle from the negative post on thr battery .
.. Im asking about the main negative cable with the terminal on it the runs from the battery .

As long as you use the same gauge wire for the cable , you can connect it to any solid part of the engine. Make sure the other ground wires coming from the negative terminal have good clean connections also.

You do need a heavy gauge cable to handle the heavy current draw from the starter itself. The rest of the system doesn't require as much current as the starter.

One thing I would recommend is to make sure that you carry the pigtails off the original cables from the body and frame back to the negative battery post. This prevents scores of hard to diagnose problems that you don't want.
