Default PCM Help

OK, I bought a 06 Escape XLT (6 cyl. AWD) a few months back to see if Ford had gotten better or worse since my last ones 87' Bronco (Killer!) and 95 F-150 (ran better than Carl Lewis). This past week OBD code P-0351 hit. I checked the coil and wiring, they are good. Gotta be PCM. I don't have 700 bucks for new one, so here are my questions:

Can I have my PCM re-flashed or does it have to be re-manned

If I do buy a used one, will it still have to be re-flashed

Is this PCM problem as common as it appears to be from what I've read on the 'Net

Any help from someone KNOWING the answers and not just answering because they think they know would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Would like to offer some possible help, but since I have made my share of mistakes without thinking things through , I am going to have to pass on this one. That much I know !
