Phaser question.
Hello, I have a 2014 Limited Expedition 5 4 3V with 265,000 miles on it. The engine started rattling around 10,000 miles ago when idling and runs rough indling or in reverse. An autoshop say it's the phasers and I either need the motor rebuilt or a replacement motor. The vehicle runs strong on the interstate without any issues. Trading it in isn't an option and the truck is otherwise in very good condition. Would just replacing the phasers solve this or should I get a replacement motor? I put 215000 of the miles on the expy and the only thing I've had to do to it is brakes and rotors and Coilpacks. I do use it to haul a 8000lb cargo trailer through the Rockies occasional and it does burn a little oil. If I go the phaser replacement way, should I go with the lockout kit and tuner or straight OEM replacement. If I go with a replacement motor, is Fraser motors reliable? Any help would be appreciated.
It is up there in miles, but with good routine maintenance, the trans should not be forgotten.
If you do decide to replace the engine , consider a remanufactured engine. They come with a better warranty and have all the latest modifications done.
Of course the cost is more than a local rebuilt , and the warranty is not that good.
Right now you know what you have and how it was maintained. I would get some estimates and see what they offer , and then maybe decide which route you want to take.
What do you think?
