ranger running lean
i have a 2001 ford ranger edge with a 4.0 auto,i changed my plugs today and by the look of the old plugs my truck is running lean, the plugs were almost white, tomorrow im changing the fuel filter, any other ideas why it is running so lean,no check engine lights on,any help would be appreciated
A little white is normal due to emission requirements. Some fuel additives will also cause a whitish residue. Start with the fuel filter change. I would also do a fuel pressure check just to be sure you have proper pressure to spay and not dribble fuel into the intake. Also run some injector cleaner if not done recently (last 4-5,000 miles). A dirty MAF/ATC sensor could also affect fuel delivery by providing the computer with false readings causing less than required fuel delivery. O2's should pick that up but not always.
