taurus
I have a 2001 taurus.. Runs great. When it gets hot outside and i run a few errands.. It wont start after i shut it off a few times... The fuel pump will not kick on.. After it sits for 10-20 minutes it will fire back up and run great... Any suggestions?
Possibly a fuel pump relay. If it gets hot, it may open and not close back until it cools. You can swap it with another one that is the same size and see if it helps. Use one that controls something you do not use a lot.
i bought a new relay.. and it did the same thing.. so i swapped the old one back in and it still wouldnt start back up.. had to wait still.. Id hate to replace the fuel pump and have it not be the problem..
could it be the whole fuse box? I dont want to spend money to replace the fuel pump and have it still doing the same thing.. The relay is usually extremely hot when it wont start.. Then i put a new one in and it still wouldnt start for 10mins..
Have you checked the fuel pressure when hot? These fuel pumps were garbage when they were new, as I replaced about 5 a day when they were new. If you have a code P0191, that's the proof. I'd be that if you verify the fuel pressure is not at least 30 psi when KOEO, then forget the wiring and look at the pump. You could check the fuel filter, but if it's been a while, it probably needs to be replaced with the pump. This is a classic vapor lock concern.
