Default Troubleshoot: 2006 Ford Taurus

Greetings all.
I have a 2006 Ford Taurus with about 114k miles on it. Recently, with increasing frequency, it's sending me a "Check charging sys" error message. I recently had a vehicle inspection and they did not locate any issues which was just prior to the light starting. A few facts,
1) Serpentine belt seems in good condition, it is from beginning of 2019, has about 10k miles on it, and is a "
Continental Elite 4060855 Poly-V/Serpentine Belt Continental Elite 4060855 Poly-V/Serpentine Belt
". I got this style belt because conventional belts were at the time squealing on cold days until the engine warmed, hasn't been an issue since I got the belt 3 years ago.
2) Battery is just over 2 years old. Resting voltage is 12.4 V.
3) Idling voltage is reading above 14V, confirmed while driving with a voltage reader I have that plugs into the cigarette lighter port. Never seen the running voltage drop below 14V.
4) No issue with the ground wire that I see coming from the battery to the chassis. Not sure if there is an additional ground or wiring harness that I should check? Car was from Arizona for most of it's life so the engine compartment was pretty immaculate when I bought it in 2015. Now getting some minor rust in northern winters.
5) Throwing a PO622 code, "Generator Field Control Circuit". Cleared the code twice but still returning.
6) Checked fuses seem clear without issues.
7) No running issues, idles clean, driving without stall or hesitation.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. All forums I find suggest it could be the alternator but since my voltage seems good I didn't want to waste the money and time if it won't fix the issue.

There is a lot more than just checking a few readings. Need to make sure your vehicle either has or doesn't have an alternator decoupling pulley system which could be malfunctioning.
Also the field control is handled by the PCM , so you need to make sure it is getting the correct info
Make sure the plug that goes to the alternator has good clean connections. Make sure all ground connections are clean and tight..You have your work cut out for you..
