very low gas milage on 5.4 triton engine

Getting 5.5 miles per gal. on this 2002 ford expedition, and it runs great, no missing. Any suggestions where to start looking......thanks

I would pull a spark plug or two and see what they tell me. If it is really burning all that fuel the plugs should be pretty black.
What kind of maintenance has been done to the vehicle ?
