4.6L question
HI all
I need assistance fast. A "friend" has his 97 Lincoln sitting in my driveway, I'm not happy
Question will a Non PI intake fit a PI head?
He picked up a wreaking yard engine, but is using the 97 intake, I read that they do not fit.
or do they fit but the intake ports are off?
Someone should have shot the engineers at Ford for doing this BS (windsor or Romeo )
Turns out the junk yard engine is just that, a broken Rod he thinks..
Hope one of you Men can give me a fast answer, I need to help him find a short block that is good , and get that beast out of my driveway.
Funny I live in LA county, and I can't find many shops that rebuild or even sell short block 4.6L
And yes this guy is out of work so money is an issue as far as getting a rebuilt engine his heads are good,
Best

Since $$$ is a pretty strong consideration, a salvage yard engine would be the cheapest and fastest way to get **** out of the driveway.
I don't know how you managed to get a junk engine, but most places will either tell you they heard the engine run or it was in running condition when accepted.
Unfortunately, now you know what to ask before buying a salvage yard engine..
Might be worth giving it another shot , maybe a different place.

Hello Hanky
Well I left myself open for that one..
2 years ago the engine in the 97 Lincoln broke. the owner bought a used engine with a warranty, him and another friend showed up at my house
to install the engine in the Lincoln... Last month the engine started smoking bad, they borrowed a bore scope and found a broken piston ring
when they took the head off to take a picture, the warranty company said he voided the warranty! So he and this other friend went down to the last
remaining wreaking yard to find an engine. bought it and brought it to my house again.. ( I guess I'm the only person they know of with a driveway and
garage). No they did not turn the motor over at the yard, and heads were on the engine. so they could not tell much.. but after it was installed
while they were bolting up the torq converter, the engine would not turn over completely, so they hooked up the battery and hit the starter...
so something in the engine is bad... Me I'm just the guy who is letting them use my driveway....
I am finding interesting info on the SOHC... the many difference between the two engines W or R. NPI to PI, etc, the 97 used coil packs
the later after 99 did not, now the engine in the car is from a 2003, but they are using the old wiring and coil packs. also the Knock sensor
wire is broken... ( guess thats not good) but then it does not make any difference as they will have the engine out today and go find another..
If the owner had asked me first I would either have rebuilt the short block or bought a rebuilt one... but not pull one from a junk yard and throw it into
my daily driver...And you know that with the OHC you can't just pull the head, it's all the chain also...front cover, sprokets etc
Anyway thanks for your input.

Please help these guys out or they may acquire squatter's rights to your driveway..
Somebody needs to do a little homework regarding the differences between years relating to engines. They don't seem to have any conception of the electronics involved. Security systems will prevent the engine from even starting and that just adds to the problems .
IMHO ,if the vehicle is going to be a daily driver, suggest considering a reman engine for that particular year.
How much $$$ and trouble has been spent so far, and was it all worth it?
Install a good engine , for that particular vehicle and do the job once. It's easy for me to spend other folks money, but we all will be sharing the burns and scars of trying to skimp where it can come back and really hurt you.
Thanks for the update, hope you guys get this thing straightened out before winter moves in and it gets cold laying on the ground under a vehicle.

I agree but when someone is stubborn what can you do.. He does not listen just goes ahead and does it.
of course when he bought the older engine, the warranty company renigned on the contract. Company is in Wisconson
Been looking for a short block, but hard to come by and they do cost money $970 and up
Thanks again Hanky, lets close the discussion
