new to the forum...have patience.... trying to get an 01 expy approx. 150 km to home and it quit 10 km in, it idled for 30 min before i drove it and seemed fine then died at a stop light ....ive been looking up solutions but there seems to be so many variables....last 1500 bucks need help... thanks for your time
It would help if you could tell us,
Does it crank over , but not start?
What does it do if you try to restart it?
Did the check engine lite come on at any time?
Can you hear the fuel pump run for the 1-2 seconds when you first turn the key on?
When it quit running did it stop as if you turned off the key?
Or did it give a few gasps before it quit altogether?
Could it be out of gas?
Add any addl info if you can, it could be helpful.
If you turn on the headlights do they come on to near full brightness?
Also, welcome to the site, hope we can help you out !

the vehicle died just like i turned key off and battery was completely dead. couldnt even turn on a light. no signs of "gonna die". all fluids are up. and apparentely it was a new alternator. i know the battery may have been dead but would it have been a fuel delivery problem? i hear theres issues with expys pumps...
Since the battery was dead it was most likely the alternator/ battery combo. That "new" alternator may have been a sloppily remanufactured one or it may have been incorrectly installed.
Somewhere I read that Auto Zone remanufactured parts are questionable. O'Reilly's tend to be of better quality.
I would remove the alternator and the battery and take them both ot O'Reilly's for testing.

I must agree with bluewind.
I have been burned a few times with aftermarket alternators on Fords and have been lucky everytime I installed one from Ford it worked fine. That's why I have always suggested if possible to replace the alternator with a Ford remanufactured alt.
Keep in mind now that when you replace the battery your vehicle will lose it's "Keep Alive Memory" and the PCM will require a few drive cycles to relearn the latest operation strategies. Means it could act a little funny until it relearns.
