Default 1985 f-150 grinding issue

Hi I'm new to the forums here but I've ran into an issue with my truck. It's a 1985 f-150 with the i6 300, np435 tranny, np 208 transfer case, and 8.8 rear end. My Issue is on my way home from work one day my truck started to skip and jump a little bit. Then started to grind in gear while driving. I would immediately take it out of gear and the grinding would stop. When it would grind I would lose all power to the wheels. It got so bad I had to drive home in first first gear crawling with the same random off and on grinding issue. I had put large 33" tires on the truck shortly before this issue occured..... I am just wondering if this may be a tranny issue or transfer case issue?? Truck has relitivly low miles at 116k... maybe a stretched chain in transfer case or....? Any help is appreciated! !
