I thought I would say hi and introduce myself a little bit. Mostly been a GM guy but my wife fell in love with a 1972 Lincoln Mark IV. Besides its been growing on me too, all 18' of it lol.
I need to redo the suspension but I am having a hard time finding parts for it. I know GM parts will go from vehicle to vehicle depending on the year. Does Ford and Lincoln share parts too?
I also want to get a AOD behind the 460 that's in it. Anyone have any suggestions on that? I have a 4L80E trans out in the garage that someone was trying to tell me there is an adapter plate I could use to bolt that to it?
Looks like this Mark IV will be my transition into the Ford world, so go easy on me people. lol

Our welcoming committee is on another project at the moment so, I'll just say welcome to the site.
If I may, Can I ask a question relating to the 4L80E sitting out in the garage?
What year vehicle did it come from and it appears to be an electronically controlled trans, could you please tell me how you plan to electronically control that trans in your Lincoln ?

Well the trans is a 2005 that came with the 6.0L LQ4 motor I recently picked up.
I plan on using a 4L60 behind the LQ4 motor because it has better gear ratios and is a lot lighter.
I thought someone made a stand alone harness that you could add an electronic controlled transmission in almost anything. HGM or compushift offers plenty of options I do believe.
Here is one site I found that offers them.
AOD, AOD Performance Transmissions from PATC, AOD Transmission, AOD Mustang, AOD

AMfab, thanks for the info. Was not aware there was a kit to do this.
Keep us informed of your progress, should be a cool project. Would like to know how it turns out. Thanks

I have found so many kits for engine tranny combinations I couldn't believe it.
I want to get the tranny done first then move onto the suspension from there.
Here is the beginning of my start.

Oh, the influence of Lee Iacocca was truly something. First the Mustang, then the Mark. I always loved them. I would recommend that the conversion to an AOD might be problematic; I can make an AODE hold that torque, but the AOD with the cast iron direct clutch drum would be a problem. Also, I don't remember if Ford ever made a case for the AOD, AODE, 4R70 or 4R75E that ever fit behind a 460. There very possibly might be a conversion kit for this. Good luck, and please let us know about how it goes. And you're right, most parts from Ford will work on Lincolns (especially engine and trans parts), but some/most of the suspension parts are pretty Lincoln specific. Good luck, and please keep us posted!
