Brake hose removal
I'm swapping out the rear end in a 2005 f350. I'm wanting to know how you remove the brake hose that runs from the case vent in the axle up to the hard line on the frame. I know how to get the end on the axle loose, its the end that connects to the hardline on the frame. I can get the hard line loose but the hose is attached to a bracket that's riveted to the frame, what's a fella to do?. My second question is, when I took the hard line loose from the rubber hose it leaked brake fluid, is that going to drain the resovoir and is there a way to cap that line off until I put the new rear end in? Thank you for any helpful advice!
There are plastic and rubber caps available, but by the time you get any of them, the master could be drained. That is not a bad thing. Brake fluid should be replaced every 5 years anyway. Most folks are not aware of that.
When you go to bleed the air out, DO NOT PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL ANY FURTHER THAN IT NORMALLY WENT. IF YOU DO, THE RUBBER CUPS IN THE MASTER CAN BE DAMAGED BY SEDIMENT IN THE MASTER BORE . If that happens the master cyl will now need to be replaced also.
