Default Extended engine cranking

My 2008 Focus periodically has extended engine cranking on a warm engine. When turning the key to the start position it will turnover for a number of seconds before starting. The key always returns back to the accessory position as it should and doesn't stick or stay in the start position. Again this happens occasionally. Could it possibly be a dirty fuel filter or something else? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi, the main reason of warm restart extended cranking is a "plugged fuel filter" or a "bad fuel pump".If your engine cranks for a long time before it starts, There may be a two problems is there one is spark or fuel is missing or weak and each has its own reasons. So,please check these problems.
